Alltel Geo-ID

The big news this week for Alltel is their $27.5 B sale to PG Capital and GS Capital Partners. In less dramatic news, Alltel now offers a Cequint-powered reverse geocoding caller ID feature listing the origin city and state of incoming calls.

City-ID is no-brainer use of Location in basic mobility services, but unfortunately we don’t see these implementations often. As device manufacturers integrate location into native features of the phone such as phonebooks, calendars, and messaging, so too should network infrastructure integrate location into all mobility service features.
